MAKE IT MIGHTY! – DIY Wallet Decorating Guide

MAKE IT MIGHTY!

How to Draw, Paint & Decorate Your Blank Tyvek® Mighty Wallet

Personalize your blank DIY Mighty Wallet, Mini Mighty Wallet, or Tyvek Billfold with your own artwork. Discover which markers, pens, inks, and decorating materials work best on Tyvek, plus tips to help your designs look great and last.

Your blank Mighty Wallet is made from microfiber Tyvek®, a recyclable nonwoven HDPE material. It is normally water-resistant, so specialized markers, inks and materials work best for decorating.

BEST MATERIALS TO USE

Permanent Markers (Alcohol-Based)

Sharpie®-style, alcohol-based, fast-drying permanent markers are the easiest choice. Great for drawing, lettering, outlines and bold color.

Pigment Creative Markers by Sharpie

Pigment-rich with a more paint-like appearance. Great for bright colors, solid shapes and stronger coverage with less bleed-through.

Staedtler Pigment Brush Pens

Create rich, vibrant matte color with a softer brush feel. Excellent for lettering, illustration and polished-looking artwork.

Metallic Sharpies

Perfect for highlights, borders, lettering and details. Metallic accents look especially good over darker or matte colors. Allow drying time for lower layers.

Micron Pens

Good for fine details and line work. Because Tyvek has a textured surface, very thin lines may spread slightly—test first and keep details simple.

Shellac-Based Winsor Inks

Great for washes, flowing colors and watercolor-like effects. Allow plenty of drying time before folding or handling.

Packing Tape & Stickers

Use tape for masking, geometric patterns or glossy accents. Stickers are an easy no-drawing option. Avoid placing them directly on heavily folded areas.

WHAT TO AVOID

Acrylic paint: Can sit on top of Tyvek and may crack or peel as the wallet flexes.

Oil-based paint: Not recommended for Tyvek.

Solvents & harsh chemicals: Avoid lacquer thinner and similar chemicals that may damage the wallet material.

Heat applications: Avoid high heat. Tyvek can soften or melt at elevated temperatures (around 250°F).

TEST FIRST!

Tyvek reacts differently than ordinary paper, so always test unfamiliar markers, inks, tapes or stickers before decorating your wallet. Use the flaps or backside of the wallet to test first.

Check for bleeding, smudging, drying time and adhesion with an abrasion test: gently wipe with your finger and a tissue.

Allow inks and other slow-drying materials to dry completely before folding your wallet.
